The Palliser Hotel in Calgary, Alberta is where we spent our first night in Canada. And it was just about perfect all the way around. The day before had been a long one starting in St. Louis and ending late (for us) in Seattle, WA. The Palliser is a very traditional hotel, elegant in a quiet way. The weather in Calgary was nicely cool and dry, which felt wonderful after the heat and humidity of the St. Louis summer.
We arrived early in the afternoon and went straight to the room to relax for a while. We had some coffee and then went out to explore the hotel. In the basement of the hotel we found a spa room and no occupants. So, we ran back to the room, changed into our suits and went back to soak in the hot tub. Heaven!
Later, we went to an orientation meeting for our tour and met some of our fellow travelers. After that, we walked around downtown Calgary and had dinner. The next day we were up early for breakfast and off, via motorcoach, to Banff National Park.
