All About Homeschooling!

Welcome to our Homeschooling page. I hope you will find a lot of valuable information here that will help you understand why we homeschool.

PencilThe first and most important reason is that we are commanded by God to: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6). Our public school system has decided to take God out of the schools. They have allowed corrupted teachers to teach our students that God is not important. They teach that the only important person in the world is yourself, you need no one else. They teach theories that try to show that God is not real, and that He has no part in the creation and running of the world.

Pencil In the United States, many schools do not even salute our flag. The children are not taught that our wonderful country was founded on the basis of religious freedom. The freedoms we enjoy now are a result of men laying down their lives to protect what God has given us. Do our kids realize that when they go through the public school system? I will remind you that I have three teenagers that have been in several different public school systems due to military moves. We have yet to find one that really loves this country and what it stands for.

PencilIn most instances, the education they have gotten has been poor, due to lack of quality teachers in the system. To most teachers, it is a job, not a passion. Our children are not taught to love and respect other people or their property. When the school system refused to let me have a say in the problems at school, I realized that my children needed more than the public schools would give. I also saw that the school system was undoing all I was trying to teach my children.

PencilNow that we have decided to train our children to love our country, be honest and upstanding citizens and to be well educated, where do we start? We began by asking other people who homeschooled their children. Wow! There are so many many homeschooling curriculums to choose from! How do I know which is right? Each family has to choose one that meets their particular needs. A good resource for checking out all the curriculums available is Mary Pride's "Big Book of Home Learning". You can find this book in most libraries, or you can get it through your local bookstore. This book not only lists just about every homeschooling curriculum, but the author has done extensive research and has described each one very well. You can also find out where to write to get more information on each curriculum!

PencilWe use a curriculum from Christian Liberty Academy. The cost is low, and the material is for the most part excellent. When the students complete a course, they should come out with an excellent knowledge of the subject if the parent helps the student to learn and understand.

PencilMany people ask about colleges accepting homeschooled children. There are very few colleges that won't accept homeschooled students. In fact many colleges and universities are happy to have them because most homeschooled students are better educated and are more self-disciplined. Here is a good link that helps answer all of the questions on homeschooling and universities.
