Tensing Krabcice was found in February 1995. But nobody of us who met every Saturday, knew what Tensing exactly is. We had a unclear idea because we saw a concert of Tensing Norway and a team from Tensing Norway made a Tensing seminar in Krabcice. We had no experience with leading. But we wanted to do something.
The pastor Erdinger who invited Tensing Norway here, together with his son Miki incited rise of Tensing. And he also asked Czech YMCA for help when we didn't know what we should do. Czech YMCA suggested to take volunteers from Volunteers For Europe, a program of European Alliances of YMCAs. Within the framework of this program there was possible to get some volunteers for helping in Krabcice with Tensing. So we asked for them.
There were two volunteers from Norway who wanted to spend a year in Krabcice. There were some problems with material and financial condition for them but thanks joint effort of Czech YMCA and Diakonie in Krabcice the troubles were overcome. They arrived to Krabcice at the beginning of September. They had just finished high school.
On the picture to the left you can see them. Marit is on the left, Gro is on the right Gro.Marit : She came from Trondheim (central Norway). She was conductor in her Tensing group in Norway and she did it also in Krabcice.
Gro : She came from an island near Arendal (southern Norway). She liked to dance very much.
Their material condition wasn't perfect. They lived at Old school - a building where Tensing met. It was build 200 years ago. It was made of stone, so there was very cold inside. There was no central heating, only coal stove in every room. In December the temperature in the kitchen was only 5 ° C. They were happy when they moved to another building after New Year.
They worked with big enthusiasm. It wasn't easy for them. First there was a language barrier because only few of us could speak English or German. Of course they couldn't speak Czech. But at the end they understood very much.
Second problem was that we were reserved and shy. We didn't believe ourself that we could do what they suggest us. It took very much time before we opened us and did things which we could even imagine before.
There were difference between an upbringing in Norway and in the Czech republic. They were more independent, self confident and insist on their opinions.
During the time this barrier was falling down and we had changed. Everybody of us was touch. They showed us not only what Tensing was and how we could do it, but much more. It that everybody could do much more than he thought. They opened our eyes and we could see us in new way. We want to say them thanks for it.
After a year they returned to Norway where they study now. They dodn't forget Krabcice. We are still in touch with them. Even they have visited Krabcice several times and some of us visited them in Norway also.
