Catherine Carroll, daughter of Peter Carroll and Margaret Dolan, was born on September 27th 1866.
She married Charles Henry Oaten, a bootmaker, on March 14th 1885 in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy at 18 years of age. Charles, in marrying a catholic scandalised his family and caused his grandfather to dis-inherit his family.
