Daniel may have been born in Picardie. His Roman Catholic name was Daniel and John became his name after conversion to the Huguenot faith. He was a silkweaver. As a Huguenot he had to flee from France to escape persecution. In 1685, the family moved to Lindau, Rhenish Palatinate, Bavaria and by 1687 they were in Steinweiler, Bavaria. It has been speculated that John (Daniel) may have been slain during the insurrection following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
