Ackley. She and Henry married there 23 December 1882. Henry continued working
on the railroad until late in 1883 he went to Pryor Creek, I.T. and rented a
farm; probably because Margaret's sister Jane and Jane's husband James "Jim"
Gambill lived there. At the time only Indians could own land. Margaret and
Henry left Gibson Station for Pryor Creek at Christmas time,1883. They camped
on the bank of Chouteau Creek at Chouteau, I.T. where, on the night of 27 December
1883, with the help of a nearby farm wife, their first son, Adolphus Wilson Ackley

After Henry's death his widow, Margaret "Maggie", took her farm stock
and
along with her three children moved in with her twin sister, Jane Caroline
(McCausland) Gambill. "Bill" Duttield and Margaret married in 1894
and
bought the farm next door to Jane and Jim Gambill. Bill Duttield determined
that Margaret's total estate was valued at $600.00 so he gave her three
children, Adolphus, Jesse and Nancy, $200.00 each in settlement of their
share.
Jim Gambill was so upset by what he felt was the unfairness of Bill
Duflield's action he never spoke to Bill for 40 years, even thought their farms
adjoined. They each erected their own fences between the farms, four feet
apart. The area between was called "Devil's Lane".
Mathias Rush wrote in 1896:
"The fourth son, Henry, was about eleven years old when they moved away.
He grew up, got married, professed religion and died when about 31, leaving
a widow and three children." Henry was just 20 days short of being 33 when
he died.
