She died in Feb 1888 in Catoosa, Indian Teritory, Oklahoma.4 later to become Tulsa, OK She was ill with Typhoid
Fever in 1888 in Catoosa, Indian Teritory, Oklahoma.4 The following is a quote from Lois Childers:
"Lucy died in 1888 at Catoosa at the home of Abe, (I believe it was Abe's
without checking back). Anyway, at that time she had taken the baby, Sara Anna
and left (separated) from Richard Childers. Why she left Sam with his father
we don't know. Ida Ackley McCollom told me all this.
Ida said she died of consumption while in Catoosa with whatever relative it was.
The baby Sara Ann died there too. knowing she had consumption and getting weaker
all the time she probably took the baby knowing Richard couldn't take care of
her, leaving Sam because he could take care of him, she left and went to her
family because she knew she would not live long and knew that she would need
someone to help care for her and the baby. Richard Childers and Sam Sr. came
to Pryor and lived with the Indians for awhile.
Early in 1891 Richard and Sam went to Pryor Creek to see the Ackleys.
Sam Sr. said they waded a creek (probably Pryor Creek), Richard carrying
Sam on his shoulders. Richard got wet, took sick and died. (this came from
Eva Baker Childers, wife of Sam Sr.) Ida Ackley McCollom said that Richard
Childers and Henry Wilson Ackley both died of typhoid in 1891."
Lucy Anna ACKLEY and Richard CHILDERS were married on 18 Jun 1879 in Tallahassee
Mission, Indian Teritory, Oklahoma.4
The marriage was pertormed by Dr. Robert McGill Loughridge. Richard
CHILDERS was born about 1859.4,232 place unknown but believed
to be Kentucky.
Richard Childers was one-half Cherokee Indian He died in Feb 1891 in Pryor Creek,
Indian Teritory.4,232 (now Pryor, Mayes County, OK). He was buried in Alberty
Cemetery, Pryor, Mayes, Oklahoma.4
this was an Indian Cemetery but they allowed non-Indians to be buried there.
The Alberty Cemetery is located just south of Pryor in the area where the Dupont
Powder Plant was located in WWII. The cemetery is ill-kept and will probably
be underwater eventually since dikes have been constructed around the area.
