Einstein: aka "Einey"
This page is dedicated to
the vets in Beloit and Osborne (Kansas) and Weslaco and Altas Palmas (Rio Grande Valley, Texas) who have cared for Einey.
The music you hear playing on this page is
from Enya.
Hi. I'm glad you made it to my own page. As my owner Ron said, I'm his
best buddy. He thinks that he controls my life, but that's not quite true.
As he said I'm pretty smart Ha! Ha! If only he knew how really smart
I am... I can get him to feed me at any time of the day. I just start barking
and barking till he feeds me... He lets me sit on his lap while he's working
on the computer, but I like to climb up his chest and lick his face Ha!
Ha! That stops him from working, and he doesn't even know I'm doing it
to him... Every morning I jump up on his bed, and begin to lick his face
until through frustration he gets up and gets me my breakfast... When we
call at a filling station he lets me stand on the convertable roof of the
car so I can check everything and everyone... I like checking out trees
and lamposts, and I've wandered off a couple of times, but Ron found me
because I was inspecting a telegraph pole, darn it! I don't think I would
run off though. Life is just too comfortable here.
Ron feeds me on Science Diet
prescription k/d food. I need this food because my lifedepends on it. I had a broken
vertebra when I was eight months old. I was on painkillers for six months before
the bone healed. I'm overweight, and Ron is "trying"to get my weight down.
He has promised me that I'm going to live to the ripe old age of 15-17 years, if not more.
of 15-17 years, if not more. I'm now going to turn it over to Ron...
For the past year Einstein has been suffering with kidney stones and kidney failure. He lost weight from 10 lbs. to 6.5 lbs. over a period of six months. A special diet failed to get rid of the stones. About six weeks ago the vet put him on a sub cu. drip of "Lactated Ringers". I did not at first find it an easy task to shove a needle into Einstein. I have eventually got used to doing it though. Sometimes Einstein has found it uncomfortable to have a needle inserted in his body. I remind myself that it is saving his life. He gets 100cc every 3 to 5 days. It has had a positive effect on Einstein's condition. He is more active, has put on weight, and is a more happy dog. We are hoping that Einey is going to have a happy life despite his problems. If any of you have had the same problem to deal with I would dearly like to hear from you. I'll now turn it back to Einstein...
Update: October, 2000. Einstein is doing quite fine. He very rarely gets sick now. I am hoping that he will remain this way well into the future. He receives sub cu drip four times a week. His weight is not going down any more. Back to Einey...
Update: January 4, 2001. Einstein has, since early December 2000, been struggling with the effects of his kidney desease. This morning, Jan. 4th, I had to have him euthanized to release him from his troubles. It was not a hard decision because of the suffering that he was going through. But, it was a hard decision because he has been my special buddy now for 9+ years. I will miss him a lot!!! But I know that I will meet him again on the other side of Rainbow Bridge. This page will remain open in his memory. I will keep adding memories and photos to his page. Ron B.
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail
and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must
be done, For this -- the last battle -- can't be won. You will be sad I
understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more
than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had
so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes,
please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay
with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no
longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been
saved. Don't grieve that it must be you who has to decide this thing to
do; We've been so close -- we two -- these years. Don't let your heart
hold any tears. -- Unknown

From the heart of a dog...
A Pets Prayer
Treat me kindly , my beloved master,
for no heart in all the world is more grateful for
kindness than the loving heart
of me.
Do not break my spirit with
a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows,
your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me the things you would have
me do.
Speak to me often, for your
voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging
of my tail when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please
take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter
elements. And I would ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting
at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather
follow you through ice and snow than to rest upon the softest pillow in
the warm home in all the land, for you are my God and I am your devoted
worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with with
fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I can
not tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay
well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand
ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be
in danger.
And, beloved master, should
the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn
me away from you. Rather hold me gentle in your arm as skilled hands grant
me the merciful boon of eternal rest and I will leave you knowing with
the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.
