THE IRWIN-WILLIAMSON FAMILY 1888

Elizabeth "Lillie" Irwin (IW) was born 3/14/1865 in Cloveneden, Loughgall, Co. Armagh, Ireland (Northern Ireland). She immigrated to Philadelphia, PA in 1883 aboard the steamship "Lord Clyde". She and her childhood friend Joseph Williamson were married 5/30/1888 at St. David's Church in Manayunk, PA. He was born 7/30/1857 also in Loughgall. After they were married they moved to Camden, NJ. Joseph was naturalized 10/31/1892. In 1900, they moved to Merchantville, NJ. Joseph worked for the Merchantville police force and retired in 1939 after 23 years of service. He died 4/17/1949 in his home on Volan St. His funeral was from the late residence and he was buried at Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken, NJ. Lillie and Joseph were members of Grace Episcopal Church. Lillie was president of the women's auxiliary of the American Legion. She was also involved with the Merchantville Women's Club, the Order of the Eastern Star (Masonic), and the American Red Cross. She last resided in Merchantville and died 10/31/1952. Her funeral was from the Stephenson Funeral Home in Merchantville and Order of the Eastern Star services were held at Arlington Cemetery. She was buried next to her husband.
