The information on Giuseppe comes to us from the social security death listing (SS #063-01-9837) and also from his nephew, Pietro S. Collorafi of New York. Giuseppe gives a different birth date than that on his birth record in Patti. He states that he was born July 11, 1886. He lists his father as Peter and his mother as Marie Denatale. His address in 1936 is given as 436 West 47th St., NY, NY. His employment is at Vincent's Barber Shop, 300 7th Ave., NY. He gives his name as Joseph, not Giuseppe. in Oreste's social security application, he gives us the names of his parents.

We also have some information about Giuseppe's trip to New York from the Ellis Island records. He is listed on the manifest for the ship, Manilla, which departed from Naples, Campania, Italy. If arrives in New York on April 6, 1900 when Giuseppe is 14 years old. He may be traveling with Gaetano Foti, age 26, also from Patti. Giuseppe may have stayed with his Aunt Caterine, sister of his father, Pietro, who came to New York the year before with Vincenza Marino - who may be her daughter or her niece, who eventually becomes Giuseppe's wife in New York.

It is said that both brothers went to the United States, probably New York.

Rita Collorafi Destenay, who was born in Sousse, Tunisia and then moved with her family to France when France gave the colony back to the native people, told us this beautiful love story of her parents - Giuseppe Collorafi and Marie Collorafi. They were married in 1925.

"I have often heard my mother tell this true story. When she was born, my father was already 18 years old and, like all the cousins, they saw each other from time to time. My father liked very much to play with this baby (my mother), but when she was about five, she used to hide when my dad came around, as she didn't like this particular cousin. Time passed, and when she was 16, my father asked for her hand in marriage at a time when young women had no say in the matter, and I am sure my mother eventually changed her opinion of my father, for he was a handsome man. This didn't prevent the couple from loving each other, from having many children, and from respecting each other to the end.
