Henry Beryl Sines Sr.

The following is extracted from Columbus B. Sines's 1958 book " The Book of the Sines".
Parts have been edited here in the interest of conserving space, but a fuller version and old family photos may be seen at Tom Whited's web site at: http://members.citynet.net/wvbigt/sines.htm

"Henry Sines was a son of Major Henry Sines. In the 1850 Allegany County,
Maryland census, (now Garret Co.) the name of his wife was listed as Olea Sines age 24. (This was Olivia Markley) Henry was listed as age 34. Children listed in the census were: Amie E. Sines, age 6; David Sines, age 5; Mary Sines, age 3; and John Sines, age 2. Value of the family's real estate was $400.00.
Later children were Henry B. "Preacher Henry", Harry, Jake (Jacob), Dalphes, and Anna. Henry Sines is buried at Sang Run, Cranesville, Maryland."
This last would be in error as Cranesville is a town in Preston Co. WV where Henry was born. Sang Run is in Garrett Co. MD.
David P. Sines was the oldest of Henry Beryl Sines Sr.'s sons. He left Garrett Co. MD with his Uncle William Jonas Sines and (father-in-law) Henry Friend, their sister wives (Eliza and Mary Elizabeth Johnson) and an assortment of offspring, to settled in Upshur County, West Virginia about 1870.

"...David, or "Uncle Dave" as he was called by many, was a farmer, a hunter and trapper. He also had a water power grist mill where the people for several miles around brought their grain. The corn was ground into meal and the buckwheat was made into flour. Uncle Dave lived on a little creek called Hauls Fork, which wandered down and emptied into a larger stream called Back Fork. These streams were filled with trout, both brown and speckled. He married Sarah Catherine "Kate" Friend, Henry Friend's oldest daughter. They raised a very large family of boys and girls."
