OLD NORWEGIAN ADAGE
© 1989 by Carol Tallman Jones
Mrs.Norse, the Norwegian widow,
shopped for a husband this way:
She'd board a train in Old Sacamento and would search till she got to the Bay.
But last Tuesday, as fate would have it, an engineer who was soused to the gills
Headed down the same track, straight for Old Sac, with no switches; no sidings; two hills.
Now the train that toted Widow Norse picked up steam as it crested the rim
While the soused engineer drank one more beer still not knowing what fate greeted him.
'Twas explained why they never collided by her toddler describing the feat:
"Norse is Norse and Souse is Souse, and never the twains shall meet."
