Tucked in the Owyhee Mountains of eastern Malheur County Oregon, just minutes from the Silver City [Idaho] so candidly depicted in one of her western poems is where Carol Tallman Jones says her heart is.

Born in Idaho, the daughter of a high desert country girl, she spent the majority of her youth on farms and ranches in the Oregon and Idaho counties of Malheur and Owyhee.

Drawing on personal experience for much of her writing, Carol also relies on knowledge gleaned from the many "old time cowhands" she has known. Her tales of the Old West, bustin' broncs, and wild horse camps came from listening to those who were actually there. "I'm not a buckaroo," she admits, "but a couple of good ones helped raise me." By that time, after years of wrangling mustangs in the Owyhee Breaks, Carol's maternal grandparents had settled down on a cattle ranch at upper Succor Creek near Rockville, Oregon.

"The wild horse days were mostly over by then," the petite lady states, "but the stories and tall tales of that era deserve to be retold."

Carrying on her Western heritage with verse that has made audiences roar with laughter one minute, then dwell profoundly on yesteryear the next, Carol entertains in a style that is truly unique.

From a refreshing woman's point of view seldom in the limelight, Carol has performed her original stories and poetry for such impressive audiences as Beta Sigma Phi, Simplot Potato Growers, and the American Association of University Women. Her work has received numerous awards from the Idaho Writer's League, Inc., a statewide non-profit corporation comprised of Idaho writers.

Carol is author of two collections of Western humor and verse, Cowboy Dreams and 100% Pure Bull. Her works have appeared in various publications including Western Digest, American Cowboy Poet, Barbwire Bards Anthology, Boots Magazine, The Peace River Farmer & Rancher, Middleton Gazette, and The Idaho Statesman. Her self-maintained web site CowPokin' Fun is pictured in an International publication of the "coolest sites" on the Internet, Capron's Pocket Internet, 2001 Sites, and received mention in Cowboy Gazette, the official publication of the International Charlie Russell Western Heritage Association.
