Chapter IV

New Things to Think About

and Friends to Visit

Page 31

A fairly large flock of these little birds came in with a larger flock of Vireos and I am not sure what they are. Both the birds that looked like Vireos and these are only about 3 inches long including the tail, of course. In my mind they are much smaller than the regular Sparrows. Later in the month a few birds that looked just like these but that were probably about 4 inches long visited the feeders. All of these photos are of the 3" bird. The days I noticed the larger birds were during the two weeks, beginning Feb 19th, that my camera was in the shop and I didn't get any pics of them.

I had mixed plain wild bird seed with the Sunflower seeds and even these small birds left the small seed in favor of the Black oil Sunflower seeds and the bird treat.

These birds do have wonderful camouflage but had the sun been shining I think they would have been a bit brighter in color. Sort of cinnamon colored and gray/white stripes.

The central head band is a very light gray and the two stripes on either side are deep cinnamon, almost red.
