The hour drive to this secluded historic 19th century restaurant in Clifton VA was romantic too. Let's just say the night was another dream come true...
Once a luxury resort for the affluent, the old Clifton Hotel (est. 1869) was host to many dignitaries, including Ulysses Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes and Theodore Roosevelt. Seeking relief from the summer heat of Washington, D.C., they came for the cooling waters of nearby Paradise Springs.
Now recognized as The Hermitage Inn, the restaurant offers French Mediterranean cuisine in its charming Victorian setting, featuring four fireplaces, original hardwood floors, a stately staircase, wrap-around porches and a large patio for summer dining.
The Hermitage Inn is open for dinner and Sunday brunch. Reservations are recommended.
