· Nubian Info ·

The Nubian breed was developed in England, by crossing English does, (mainly Swiss type), with bucks from Nubia, in Upper Egypt, and Ethiopia. They have a distinct head shape, with a Roman nose, and long, pendulous ears. They are a large animal, like the Saanen, and Alpine. Nubians range through every possible colour, and combination of colours. Their coat is shorter, and glossier than the "Swiss" breeds. Nubians prefer warm climates, although with good housing in winter they will adapt well to any climate the other breeds can tolerate.

Milk production is a bit less than that of the "Swiss" breeds, but through selective breeding the gap is being narrowed. Does on official tests gave 716kg of milk, and 32kg of butterfat in a 10 month lactation.

BREED TYPE STANDARDS:
EARS: Large, and pendulous
FACE: Distinctly convex
HEIGHT: Minimum of 76cm
