Diagonal Double Crochet Potholder

This is a thick Diagonal potholder I had to sort of work out the pattern to. I found some like this at the house when we were cleaning it out that belonged to Scott's Grandma. There were A Diagonal Potholder, Smiley Faces, Watermelons and Round decorative hotpads. So this may not be a new idea or pattern but I came up with it based on what I found there. My version may not be the same as the actual potholder, however and is copyrighted to me, Marla Caneer and may be printed for personal or charity use only and is not nor the item made from it to be sold.

Size F Crochet hook
2oz of WW yarn

Note:It may help to work tightly. Don't worry if your work curls- the shape will come as pattern is worked. The corners should definitely curl to form "pockets" on the ends.

Chain 41

Pattern is worked in BACK LOOPS ONLY

Row 1: Dc in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across to end chain, 2 dc in end chain. Continue on other side, Dc in each free loop of chain, then one more dc in end chain. Join with a slip Stitch.

Row 2-10: Dc through back loop of each stitch around for a total of 10 Dc rows. After 10 rows the diagonal edges of your work should touch when folded, forming a square. Using a slip stitch through top or back loops only, join edges. Knot securely at the end, then leave a 2" or so tail. Now use the crochet hook to pull the leftover tail and knot to the inside of the potholder and out of sight.
