Hettie

	My name is Hettie...now I've got a story to tell you. Long ago when I was very small I lived with a "lady of the night"...unfortunately some of her friends didn't like me and they gave me a hard time. It's not easy when you've got nowhere else to go...then things started to get really bad and I was very scared. Then one night when it was dark two men came in a car and picked me up and bundled me into the back, we went on a long ride and when we stopped they got me out of the car and took me into a nice place where there were lots of other Bassets.
	These other Bassets were really friendly and they showed me where I was to sleep and where the food was and they stayed with me all night so I wouldn't be afraid.. The next day a really nice lady came to see me, she was so kind and gentle...she said I could come and live with her...I hoped like mad that she would like me. That was a lot of years ago now and my mum (Dorothy) and I do everything together, we go on walks, we go to the cricket and we eat chicken and BONES ...well I do anyway. We go and watch my cousins in the show ring and I always say to myself "I could have won that!" but I am a lady of leisure now.
	Well...I'm getting on in years now...but I'm still pretty fit and the old nose is 100% I can still smell a piece of liver at 100 paces. Yep...I was a rescued Basset and my brothers and sisters were all Champions, but I have had my picture in three calendars and I sleep inside...life's pretty good. Aah...the bones are a bit creaky now, but I'll be back to watch the Champ.Show again next year and hopefully there'll be a little bit of liver waiting for me. Hettie....I am beautiful aren't I mum.
P.S. Hettie passed away at 14 1/2 years of age due to natural causes on Sunday 2nd December 2001, she would have been 15 years of age next May 2002.
