On a fine but cold morning 9 Basset Hounds,
owners, family and friends meet at the car park attached to the Pipemakers Park,
Maribyrnong. Thanks to those members who traveled afar – Waverley, Narre
Warren, Werribee and Macedon.
This was a new location and time to explore a
new walk in the west. The walk comes under the Parks Victoria care and sits
close to the very busy Highpoint Shopping Centre. The park was a former factory
site and hence took us past the pipe factory, Chimney, Visitor Centre and Living
Museum to the two Bluestone buildings and on to the mooring for a picture
opportunity. A few people wished they had brought their fishing lines.
We then walked to the Irish Womens Shelter for
another picture opportunity and then past a statue representing the dolphins who
traveled up the Maribyrnong River to the site. Walking through the History of
the Land Garden on to the swamp (without water) and back to the shelter for a
cuppa, talk and something to eat. The walk took approximately 45 minutes with
gentle slopes.
Congratulations to Brian Walker and family who
joined us on their 51st wedding anniversary. A great achievement and
may I take the opportunity, on behave of the BHCV on congratulating them on such
a great achievement. Rare these days.
For the more enthusiastic bassets we found more
energy to walk back over the footbridge to the free lease area where the bassets
had a very enjoyable run.
Thanks to all members who joined me in this
walk, Shirley and Steve, Diane and David and extended family, Anne and Gregor,
the Walker family and others (names have escape me – seniors moment) with
and without dogs. Many thanks for making this a very enjoyable walk.
The walks are a great opportunity for us
to walk our Basset Hounds and chat which members of the Club. |
