SPRING/SUMMER 2008
Winter was COLD with below normal temperatures and freezes ruined the citrus crops, Avocados, and Strawberries for California's farmers.
Spring proved to be comfortable BUT not much rainfall! Fortunately our fruit crops look promising AND we are already picking fresh figs. Grapes look great and we hope we can keep the wild rabbits from helping themselves this year!
Meanwhile, the white nectarine, the apples, peaches, pears, persimmons, pecans, and citrus trees are loaded with fruit so late summer and fall we will have a bountiful harvest.

HAPPY NEW YEARS DAY 2009! May the New Year bring one and all health and peace.
Wonderful NEWS! We have received a letter from the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Genetics Laboratory in which we were Thanked for participating in the Breed Profile Project AND informed that the COLLIE breed has been chosen to participate in further DNA studies!!!! HOORAY! This is fabulous news as the genome-screening panels developed in Phase One are being applied to breed specific databases to establish breed baseline information for each genetic marker. As the dog genome project continues to expand, additional marker information is available for researchers to apply to the present research.
Four of our TIMBERLEAF Collies have been chosen to resubmit cheek swab samples to the research to help create a more complete breed profile for future studies targeting trait or disease genes.
Visit the website at http://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/research/canine/
KENNEL NOTES
We have also submitted cheek swabs to UC Davis for the genetic marker gene for Ivermectin sensitivity. Important to know not only to avoid the heartworm preventative used for canines BUT with herding dog's who co-exist with sheep. Ivomec (ivermectin is used to worm sheep). *UPDATE: Preliminary results show our entire kennel of Collies and Shelties are NOT Ivermetin sensitive!!!**We had our newest Sheltie, BOSS (aka Premiere's Little Big Man) tested at WASHINGTON STATE Laboratory and he is also not a carrier of the mutant gene!
