Sworn Statement of James Scantlin

Regarding Pvt. Daniel Scantlin

State of New York Ontario County

James Scantlin being duly sworn says that he lives in Canandaigua New York that he lived in said town of Canandaigua NY in December and January 1856 & 1857 and ever since that he well knew Daniel Scantlin deceased that he well knows Hannah Scantlin, that on the 1st of January 1857 he was at the house of Daniel Scantlin deceased that while there Mrs. Hannah Scantlin gave birth to a male child which she now calls William Scantlin, that besides himself there were present said Daniel Scantlin now deceased, John Scantlin and Catharine Leonard only. That there was no physician in attendance is the reason he makes this affidavit, that he has no interest in the prosecution of the above claim.

Subscribed and sworn before me this 20 April 1867, I certify that I know James Scantlin that he is the person he represents himself to be that he is entitled to credit, that the above affidavit was read over to him before he made his mark, that I have no interest in this claim.
