State of Ohio County of Portage
Catharine Leonard being duly sworn says that she now lives in Portage County State of Ohio. That in the year 1856 and 1857 and the succeeding years she lived in the Town of Canandaigua NY that she well knew Daniel Scantlin in his lifetime. She also knows Hannah Scantlin who lives in said Town of Canandaigua NY. That on the 1 day of January 1857 she was at the house of Daniel Scantlin in the town of Canandaigua NY and while there Hannah Scantlin was confined and gave birth to a male child who she now calls William Scantlin. She further says that there were present John Scantlin, James Scantlin, Daniel Scantlin deceased and this deponent but that no physician was present is the reason she makes this affidavit. She further says that she has no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
