Sworn Statement of John Scantlin

Regarding Pvt. Daniel Scantlin

State of New York County of Ontario

John Scantlin being duly sworn says that he lives in Canandaigua NY that he lived in said town on or before May 21 1854 and has lived there ever since. That he well knew Daniel Scantlin deceased who was a private in Co. K 98th Regiment NY Vols. That he well knows Hannah Scantlin of said Daniel Scantlin that on the 21 day of May 1854 he was present at the house of Daniel Scantlin that which there she Mrs. Hannah Scantlin was confined and gave birth to a female child which she now calls Jane Scantlin. That he was also present at the house of Daniel Scantlin January 1 1857, that while there Mrs. Scantlin was again confined and gave birth to a male child which she now calls William Scantlin that at her then confinement no physician was present. That said Hannah Scantlin never calls a physician during her confinement. He further says he has no interest in the prosecution of the above claim.

Subscribed and sworn before me this 22nd day of March 1867. I certify that I know John Scantlin that he is a person entitled to credit. I further certify that I have no interest in this claim.
