My Native American Ancestors

Powhatan was chief of the Algonquian Indian Tribe.  His tribe was located in the region between the James and York Rivers in Eastern Virginia.  He had several wives and many children. However, he had a favorite child, a daughter named Pocahontas.

Pocahontas2 was the daughter of Chief Powhatan and Wahunsonacook.1  Princess Pocahontas married John Rolfe and they had one child, Thomas Rolfe.3  Thomas married Jane Poythress. They had one child, a daughter named Jane Rolfe.4  Jane was born abt 1655; married Col. Robert Bolling in 1675.  Jane and Col. Bolling had a son, John Bolling.5  John was born about 1676 and  married Mary Kennon.  John and Mary had six children:

  1.  John Bolling 6 born 1700; married Elizabeth Blair-Lewis in 1728.

  2.  Jane Bolling married Col. Richard Randolph.  

  3. Mary Bolling married Col. John Flemming.  

  4. Elizabeth Bolling married Dr. William Gray.  

  5. Martha Bolling married Thomas Eldridge.

  6.  Ann Bolling married James Murray.

John Bolling6 was born 1700, married Elizabeth Blair-Lewis in 1728.  They had eighteen children, including two sets of twins:

  1. Meotaka Bolling born 1729, married James Sullivan.
  2. Archibald Bolling born 1730, died in infancy.
  3. Twin-William Bolling born 1731, married Amalia Randolph.
  4. Twin-Elizabeth Bolling born 1731.
  5. Jarrett Bolling born 1732, married Nancy Watts.
  6. Martha Bolling born 1733.
  7. Twin-Daratha Bolling born 1734.
  8. Twin-Benjamin Bolling7 born 1734; married 1st  Mary "Patsy" Phelps, 2nd Charity Larrimore.
  9. Thomas Bolling born 1735, married Elizabeth Gay.
  10. John Bolling born 1737, married Mary Jefferson.
  11. Robert Bolling born 1738, married Mary Burton.
  12. Jane Bolling born 1740, married William Hopkins.
  13. Rodney Bolling born 1742, married Elizabeth Anderson.
  14. Mary Bolling born 1744, married Richard Bland.
  15. Sarah Bolling born 1748, married John Tazewell.
  16. Anne Bolling born 1752, married William Dandridge.
  17. James Bolling born 1756.
  18. Jesse Bolling born 1757, eight months after his father's death.

Benjamin Bolling7 was born 1734.  He married Mary "Patsy" Phelps in 17??.  Benjamin was a Baptist Minister.  He and Mary are said to have had eight children:

  1. Benjamin Bolling, Jr. born 1754; married Sally T. Hancock.
  2. John Bolling born 1756; married ??Kennon.
  3. Jesse Bolling born 1758; married Polly Green.
  4. Levi Bolling born 1760.
  5. Delaney Bolling born 1764.
  6. Hannah Bolling8 born 1766; married Solomon Osborne.
  7. Elizabeth Bolling born 1767; married Brittian Williams.
  8. Levi Bolling born 1769.

Benjamin and his 2nd wife, Charity Larrimore had one son, Jeremiah Bolling who married Sally Ward.  Benjamin died in 1832 and is said to be buried beside Charity, at Flat Gap, Virginia which is in Wise County.

Hannah Bolling8 was born 1766 in North Carolina.  She married Solomon Osborn in 1787. They were the parents of seven children:

  1. Sherwood Osborn born 1788; married Louisa Collier on April 28, 1813.
  2. Benjamin Harrison Osborn9 born 1790; married Susannah Baker.
  3. Anna Osborn born 1792; married Buck Blankenship.
  4. Dicie Osborn born 1794; married Joe England.
  5. Hiram Osborn born 1798; married 1st Nancy Mullins in 1819. 2nd Rebecca Bentley in 1866.  Hiram died in 1892.
  6. Hannah Osborn born 1800; married George Tacket in 1823.

Benjamin Harrison Osborn9 was born in Pike County Kentucky in 1790. He married Susannah Baker on Febuary 23, 1813.  They had eight children:

  1. Candacey Osborn born 1814; married Isom Mullins in 1838.
  2. Elizabeth Osborn born 1817; married Jacob Johnson in 1838.
  3. James Osborn born 1821; married Polly ??
  4. Ruel Osborn10 born 1825; married Syndesta Breeding in 1843.
  5. David Jesse Osborn born 1831; married Elizabeth Spence in 1855.
  6. William Osborn born 1834; married Mary "Polly" Keen in 1855.
  7. George Osborn born 1836.
  8. Margaret "Peg" Osborn born in 1840; married William Keen, brother to Mary who married William Osborn.

Ruel Osborn10 was born in 1825.  He married Syndesta Breeding in Tazewell County Virginia in December 1843.  Syndesta was the daughter of Spencer and Hannah (Hicks) Breeding.  Ruel and Syndesta had nine children:

  1. James Osborn born 1844; married  1st Martha Viars in 1860 and Rebecca Gross in 1881.
  2. Susannah Osborn born 1850 died when she was about 20 years old.
  3. William Grayson Osborn born 1853; married 1st Maragaret Church in 1869 and Dicy Rife in 1910.
  4. Spencer Osborne11 was born in January of 1857.  He married 1st Hannah Rife about 1877, and 2nd Sabra Blizzard in 1910.
  5. Jackson Osborn born 1860 married Lydia Mullins in 1880.
  6. Fannie Mae Osborn born 1862; married Thompson Keen in 1878.
  7. Levina Osborn born 1864 died at the age of six years.
  8. Solomon Osborn born 1867; married 1st Sarah Church and 2nd Elvira Mullins.
  9. Candacy Osborn born 1869 died as a small child.

Spencer Osborne11 was born in January of 1857.  He married his 1st wife, Hannah Rife in 1878 in McDowell County West Virginia.  Hannah was the daughter of Elijah and Malinda (Robinson) Rife.  I show them having nine children:

  1. Malinda "Lindy" Osborne born 1878; married Joseph Vandyke.
  2. Laban Osborne born October 1879, married J M Justus on December 13, 1900.
  3. Amanda Elizabeth Osborne12 born January 1884, married Robinson C Fuller on December 1, 1904 in Buchanan County.
  4. Lottie Osborne born  May 1886, married Rural Osborne on Nov 19, 1903.
  5. Mary Osborne born Feb 1888. married Green Muncy.
  6. Lucy Osborne born March 1890, married James H Coleman on Sept 23, 1909.
  7. Mattie Osborne married Alex Meadows.
  8. Rose Osborne married Grat Shelton.
  9. Polly Osborne marred Joseph Vandyke. Yes, this is the same Joe Vandyke who married Malinda, eldest sister of Polly.
