About 1792 Jeremiah became united with the Crab Orchard Baptist Church and
became interested in preaching. Jeremiah learned to play fiddle for dances at
the home of Col. William Whitley. He eloped in 1799 with
Elizabeth James, daughter of Richard James; they married in Lincoln Co KY. He
was ordained in 1801. In 1830 he moved to Ralls Co. MO, where he died 8 May
1842. He founded the Jeremiah Vardman School of Theology in Liberty, MO, which
is now a part of the William Jewel College. Jeremiah and Elizabeth had 10
children before she died prior to 1820. He then married Elizabeth Bryan,
daughter of Daniel Boone Bryan and Elizabeth Turner, and they had five
children. Later he married Lucy Redd Bullock.
