Other information I have seen on the internet has quite a bit of variation among the first generations of Vardamans and I haven't really ever figured out what exactly is correct.
John Vardaman, Jr. emigrated to South Carolina from Sweden with his parents at the age of seven. John and Elizabeth came to Bedford County Va. where most of their children were born.
John Vardaman Jr. was a member of the Bedford County, VA Militia in 1758. He saw Revolutionary War service as a member of Captain Boyle's Company at Dick River, KY 1780. See DAR records of Mrs. Lida Lawson Scott, Oxford, Miss. #26133. According to Wood's 1983 Vardaman book, ``John Jr. and his sons took part in the French and Indian Wars. Sons William, John III, Amaziah and Morgan all served.'' However, the 1750s and 1760s birthdates Woods gives for these sons make it impossible for the sons to have been in the French and Indian Wars (1754-63), so apparently there has been confusion with an older Vardaman generation.
In 1779 John Vardaman Jr. and his family moved to Kentucky and settled near Crab Orchard. He was a land owner on Cedar Creek, Lincoln Co. A land conveyance dtd 12 Sep 1789 shows 200 acres transferred from William Menefee, husband of Elizabeth Vardaman, to John Vardaman Jr. John Jr.'s family were probably members of the old Gilberts Creek Baptist Church; later they belonged to Crab Orchard Baptist Church.
In 1812 John Jr. moved to Missouri where he died.
Some researchers have suggested that Elizabeth Morgan was the second wife of John Vardaman.
