Thomas enlisted March 6, 1863 in Company D 2nd Virginia Cavalry. He was wounded at Gettysburg July 3, 1863 and captured at Williamsport, MD. He was paroled at Point Lookout on March 14, 1864 and exchanged at City Point, VA.
