Ellen and John moved to Nebraska in 1880. Ellen had suffered from consumption (TB) for one year and spent her last summer in the mountains of Colorado to try to improve her help. She apparently knew her time was short as her obituary says she was trying to get her estate as settled as possible and sell-off her personal property since all their children were under 16. She was a member of the Christian church, having officially joined at age 16.
