Will attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport and also the Clinton Business College. He moved to Chicago about 1900, and worked first as a shoe salesman and later with the finance department in city hall. He's listed as a bookkeeper at city hall in the 1920 census. William and family lived for about three years around 1910 on a farm in Glen Ellyn (a west suburb of Chicago), on Swift Rd., north of North Avenue, half mile on the west side of the road. They owned the farm for another 25 or 30 years, although they moved into Chicago, where they lived at 5000 Washington Blvd, which is on the west side of Chicago.
Theresa's older sister Kate (Catherine) married William's uncle, who was also named William Shannon. Theresa and Kate's parents were Michael O'Gorman (born Sept. 10, 1826, died Aug. 1, 1890) and Anna Frawley (born Sept.22, 1843, died Oct. 1, 1898). The O'Gormans had 12 children, only 5 of whom lived to full maturity.
