James' parents were Luke McDermott and Bridgett
Casey, both born in Ireland and both died in Clinton Co., Iowa.
James came to St. Louis at the age of three and moved to
Clinton county in 1857. James farmed on land in Waterford township.
His poor health had confined him to his home
for about three months before his death on Easter Sunday.
According to the 1920 census, James was naturalized in 1855
after immigrating in 1850.
