The Prairie Creek (West Lawn) Cemetery index has an entry for ``William Olney Morgan, 1835, son of Oran and Sharlott.'' It sounds like that might be a son in this family, but Orson and Charlotte were not yet married in 1835 (and only 13 years old).
Orson Morgan was a charter member of the Middleton Church of Christ, organized in 1851. He was later ``Dismissed by letter,'' and Charlotte ``received a letter'' from the church August 8, 1852. His parents were also charter members.
The following biography of Orson is from the Morgan-Bryant family booklet:
During the war between the states, Orson enlisted in the Union Army. Due to hardships faced by his family, he paid the government $1000 cash to hire another soldier to replace him. He became an Officer in the Home Guard; and Enrolling for Vigo and Sullivan counties, Indiana. His life and home were threatened often with destruction due to antagonism of southern sympathizers. On Dec. 24, 1868 he moved his family to Champaign county, Illinois; in 1872 to Douglas county, Illinois, and in 1876 to Cumberland county, Illinois.
In the Jewett Cemetery, where Charlotte is buried, are graves for two infants who are probably grandchildren of Orson and Charlotte. They were apparently twins: Orson Morgan, born September 12, 1883, died October 19, 1883; and Orpha Morgan, born September 12, 1883, died October 25, 1883. I have tentatively placed these two as children of Adolphus L. Morgan.
The Illinois marriage index also has a Cumberland Co. marriage between an Orson Morgan and Frances A. Kelly on 29 Jul 1888. I don't know what, if any, relation that Orson Morgan is.
An ``O. Morgan'' of Toledo advertised in early Cumberland County fair books for selling ``Groceries, Confectionaries, Dries Fruits''. I don't know if that is this Orson, his son, or someone else.
