According to the Morgan family booklet, Icilius enlisted in the 43rd Indiana regiment for the Civil war, the same regiment as his cousins Lycurgus and William Riley Morgan. The service history listed for him is almost identical to that for William Riley Morgan. Here is this history for Icilius:

``I.D.'' enlisted with the 43rd Regiment of Indiana Volunteers on Sept. 19, 1861, with rating of Corporal in Company ``D''. During an engagement at Marks' Mill, Arkansas, he was captured, and taken to Tyler, Texas where he was imprisoned for 10 months, then exchanged. He was mustered out on June 14, 1865. He participated in battles of Memphis, Helena, Ft. Pillow, and Mark's Mill.
