Other researchers have suggested that this Daniel and Elizabeth
(Slaughter) Matthews were the parents of the following children:
Stephen, born 1805-9 in Lawrence Co., TN, Lucinda, b. 1817, Ardena,
b. 1824, and Ciney, b. 1826. Their father certainly wasn't this
Daniel Matthews, because he died in 1812. The question then becomes,
was it this Daniel who married Elizabeth Slaughter in Greene Co., TN
or was it some other Daniel Matthews who went on to become the father
of the above children? There are several things that lead me to
believe it was this Daniel. First, this Daniel's 1812 will names his
wife Eliza. Also, the rest of this Matthews (Joel, etc.) family was
definitely in Greene Co., Tennessee before coming to Pulaski Co., KY.
Daniel and Joel Matthews (and others) first appear on Pulaski Co. tax
lists in 1804 which agrees with other evidence showing the Matthews
family came there in 1803--1804. Several years in the future,
there are several marriages and co-migrations between this extended
Matthews family and some Slaughters. That may just be coincidence as
far as Elizabeth in particular is concerned, but it is something to
consider. I haven't seen Pulaski Co., KY mentioned in any of the
other researchers material, and I haven't seen their evidence, other
than some family traditions, as to why they believe Daniel and
Elizabeth were the parents of those children.
