Betsy was a cousin of TQ Matthews according to a letter written by him. TQ didn't say exactly which uncle was Betsy's father. However, I am pretty sure that she must belong in in the Daniel Matthews family. TQ's use of the word ``cousin'' in his letter almost definitely means first cousin. Daniel is the only one of James' brothers (James being TQ's father) who is old enough and already married when Betsy is born.

Betsy's exact birth and death dates are given on her tombstone.
