Henry was the youngest child of his parents, was a republican, a member of IOOF, and a Methodist.

According to Dean Pierson, a descendent, shortly after Henry's 1865 marriage, he went to Keokuk Co., Iowa with his sister Cynthia Ann Pierson Clemons, his brother James Madison Pierson, and Tom Morgan. From the dates, this Tom Morgan isn't Henry's uncle Thomas Morgan (1814-1903), but we believe it is most likely Henry's first cousin Thomas (born about 1846), son of % James Morgan. % Three of Henry's children, Meede, Carrie, and Letha, were born in (or near) Keokuk Co.,Iowa. But due to pressure from his family, Henry returned home to Retreat, Jackson Co., Indiana. He sent his family home by train, and he and Tom Morgan drove a wagon back to Indiana (probably containing furniture, tools, etc.). The others remained in Iowa. Letha was born in 1870 in Iowa and the family is still there in Keokuk Co. for the 1870 census (in the summer) but they could have headed back to Indiana any time after that.

The same descendent, Dean, told of a couple of old family stories about the return to Indiana: One story says that Cynthia tried to set up Henry Clay with another woman. He supposedly got upset with that (he was a Methodist minister either at this or a later time), and returned to Indiana. Another story (probably incomplete) tells about Henry C. Pierson and Tom Morgan's return to Indiana. They were traveling with another wagon. Henry Clay and Tom did not want to camp with the members of this other wagon for some reason. So apparently HC and Tom went ahead and Tom fired up a shotgun a couple of times to warn them off.

Henry later changed his religion to Nazarene. He went to college for some period in Asbury College in Wilmore, KY.
