Lurana's birth and death dates were copied from her tombstone by her descendent Steven Dent. The tombstone also gives the Lurana spelling of her name. Various other family records spell it Lurenia.

Shelton Gear was an early settler of Marshall Co., Iowa. He came there in 1848 with Lurana's father.
