Harold moved to Elma with his parents in 1911. He served with the US Navy in 1943 . After Harold and Bernice were married, they lived in Mason City for eight years and then moved back to the Elma area. Harold had held many local offices, including serving as mayor, a member of the city council, the church council, Elm-Go Retirement Housing Complex board, the Howard County Conservation Board, and was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
