After their marriage, Elizabeth and John farmed in Clinton County. In 1911, they moved to Howard County, Iowa area, along with several other relatives. They farmed around Elma until 1935 when they moved into Elma. Elizabeth was described as ``critically sick'' in her husband's 1944 obituary. In 1945, Elizabeth moved to Cedar Rapids where she lived in a hospital nursing home.

Some notes of Albert K. Showalter give her a nickname of Lizzie, as does the obit of her brother George, which also states she lived in Olewein when George died in 1946.
