Richard and Estella farmed near Petersville for five years, northwest of DeWitt for two years and at their home place near DeWitt for 33 years. They retired and moved to DeWitt 12 years before he died. Richard was a member of St. Joseph's church, DeWitt. He and Estella celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1954.

He and Estella had 16 grandchildren when she died in Dec. of 1955.

Richard's obituary says he is survived by two brothers (Frank and James) and a sister Mary, and was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters. That doesn't add up to the right number of brother or sisters in his family, however.
