George received a cigar-box violin one Christmas when he was small (as remembered by his sister Ellen). George later learned to play a real violin. George's granddaughter, Connie Kealy George, remembered, ``My favorite memories of Grandpa are of him playing his fiddle. Later in his life, he could hardly walk because of rheumatism. However, when he was sitting and playing his fiddle, his leg would just be bouncing up and down to the music. In fact, the last time I saw him, he flew out to California to see my Uncle Harold and me. My oldest daughter was about 2 years old and he played his fiddle for her. She was fascinated with him.''
