Valentine's
Day . . . . . there are many stories regarding the origins of Valentine's
Day. The most popular is the story of a Christian named Valentine
who was imprisoned around 270 A.D., because he would not abandon his Christian
beliefs. He developed a friendship with his jailer's daughter and,
before his execution, sent her a note signed "Your Valentine."
Valentine's
Day is celebrated on February 14th. In today's world, Valentine's
Day is celebrated by sending pretty flowers, cards, candy and the traditional
red heart (or Valentine) to symbolize "the giving of one's heart".
It is a day to express love to family, friends and sweethearts alike.
I'm
Not Just February
I'm
not just February
With
winds that blow
All
day, and piled-up snow;
I'mWashington
and Lincoln, too,
Who
kept our country's flag for you!
I'm
Valentine of airy grace--
With
golden hearts and hearts of lace
And
pretty cards that people send,
Quite
as a secret, to a friend.
Though
I am short of days and small,
I'm
quite a big month after all!
