I have decided to not stray too far from my basic "core" names. It would be easy to try and look into every name that I have listed on the other pages, but that would be too much of an undertaking at the present time. Therefore, I am just going to limit to just surnames that are relevant to the research and mean something. Not just because a member of one family married someone that was related to someone else that married a Gyger.
RHODES/ROTH There really hasn't been much done on the RHODES lines. Although, my father would love to be able to connect back to the Revolutionary War. I don't have it listed with the Gyger's but I have some info on this surname. John Gyger married Priscilla RHODES 7 July 1861 in Hennepin, IL. Priscilla was born in West Hanover, PA 16 May 1845 to John and Catherine RHODES. The earliest dates I have been able to find the family together was in the 1850 Census in Dauphin Co., PA. It appears that John Rhodes was born about 1809 in PA, Catherine was born possibly in December of 1811. The Census has the name as "ROAD". Listed was the rest of the family; Thomas born about 1837, William born 15 Sept. 1839 (I have information on William), Priscilla, Elizabeth born abt 1846, and Catherine born abt 1849. It appears that the Rhodes family moved to Illinois where John Gyger met Priscilla. John, both Catherines (the mother and daughter), Priscilla and William are all buried in Mt. Bloom Cemetery in Tiskilwa , IL.
8/24/2002 - Received some VERY welcome information the other day relating to the Rhodes line. Presently, I have agreed to meet with Don RHOADS in Lebanon County, PA to visit some graves. It appears that the original name was ROTH. This person has added the parents for John Rhodes (ROAD) that I found in the 1850 Census. Exciting news, indeed!!!!
1/30/2005 - While going through some of my Father's papers, my Mother came
across some pages that appear to have been torn out of a book, maybe a family
Bible. The pages start with the date of 1834 for the page entitled "Geburten",
1835 for the "Trauungen" page and 1837 for the "Gterbefälle"
page. Hopefully, Cousin Don Rhoads has some contacts that can read the old
German writing.
TEBOW
I have traced this line, with the help of Dan and Dean Tebow (No, they
aren't brothers. They are second cousins). Dan saw my query
for information regarding any descendants of Jerry and Isadora (Gyger)
Tebow. I had posted Jerry and his parents, Isaac and Sarah, looking
for info. Isaac was familiar to Dan and then - It took off when he
received a post from Dean. In 1997, I had the pleasure of meeting
both Dan and Dean and also attending a reunion of Isadora and Jerry's descendants
in Springfield, MO. It was at this reunion that I met Uncle Harold,
Jerry and Isadora's only living son. At age 98, he was still sharp
and gave me some in-sight on not only his mother, but also of his grandparents,
my great-great-grandparents. In October of 1998, I went through MO
and visited Uncle Harold. It was during this time he provided me
with a link to the Smith's (see below). July 14, 1999 once again
I traveled to Missouri. This time it was to attend Uncle Harold's 100th
Birthday. Still in great shape and sharp mind. Unfortunately, Uncle Harold
went to see his Lord in June of 2000. He will be sadly missed by all that
knew and loved him. You can see
a partial list of TEBOWs on the GYGER History Page.
LAREAU Great-Grandaunt Gertrude Blanche Gyger married Charles Edward LaReau March 7, 1898 in Bureau County, IL. At first, I thought that I was going to have a devil of a time researching the lines of the Gyger girls. But, such has not been the case. With the Tebow line (above), I received some very timely information and the same has been true about the LaReau line. I was fortunate enough to get a "delayed" birth certificate from an "Aunt" in IL that has been instrumental in providing me with LOTS of information on the Gyger family. Once I had the certificate in hand, I contacted Paul Lareau and inquired about Charles. Paul came through with some valuable information. Charles was a Baptist minister and served the Lord through his ministry in several states and cities. Gertrude and Charles had two children and there are living descendants of the two off-spring. While attending a business meeting in Rochester, NY (searching another line!), I came across the two volume set of the Lareau Lines. It gave me enough to continue with this line. I have been in contact with one of Gertrude and Charles' great-grandchildren who lives in Missouri.

SMITH Just what I needed. Smiths! No offense to anyone of this surname. There are just so few Gyger's, Tebow's, LaReau's, but there are so many Smith's! Great-Grandaunt Grace married Wade Smith in Tiskilwa, IL on March 22, 1900. I have traced them to LaHarpe, IL in the 1920 Federal Census. It states that Wade was a Methodist-Episcopalian Minister at that time. There were also two sons; Wade E. born in 1912 and George A. born abt 1915. In October 1998, I visited Uncle Harold Tebow (see above) and he gave me the address of George's widow, Doris Smith. She was generous enough to provide me with some names and dates of her sister-in-law, Delores Smith (Wade E's widow), nieces and nephews. She and George had no children of their own. I have received family sheets for these families. Although I have no intention of posting these families here on the Web, I will share information with those that have a tie to the Gyger-Smith line.
Ingall This
line has also been combined with the McColl
lines. Within the past couple of years, I have received some decent
information on this line courtesy of Mary Dennison. She is also looking at
the Ingall lines. Seems as though they may have come into New York, around
the Rochester area, and then migrated up to Galt, Canada. Arvilla Rockwell
married into this family. You can see the headstones of Thomas Ingall and
his wife, Arvilla Rockwell at http://community.webshots.com/user/lsgyger98
Other names that I am researching, but have very limited info:
Abbott, Bottorff, Harris, Manogg, Martin, McCauley (have some decent info here), Olmstead, Rockwell
I would like to publicly thank "Aunt" Aggie who
has constantly surprised me with the information that she finds and passes
on to me. Bless her, in her quest to research her family, I think
she finds more info for me than she does for herself. Yes, she is
related, but to my Bickett line, not the Gyger.
