Facts for Richard " Dickie " Herron are far and few in between.  According to census reports he was born in 1761 in Virginia, but we have not determined which family he connects to.  There  is a Richard Herron listed as a Revolutionary War soldier in Virginia, and our Richard did recieve a tract of 640 acres in the Mine Lick Creek area of what is now Putnam County, Tennessee.  When he first arrived is not known for sure, but he does show on the 1820 census for White County, Tennessee, along with a David & William Herren.  These could possibly be brothers or at least members of his family.

The number of times our Richard was married is also unclear.  One report says it was three times, first to a Mary and this union produced a son James born 1785.  Mary is said to have died at James' birth.  The next marriage that produced 6 of Richard's children, may have occured about 1809 -10 in North Carolina, and is said that this wife was a full blooded Cherokee.  The third wife, Abagail's surname is also still unknown and she is listed as the mother of the last two children.  By census records she was born 1795 in North Carolina.  Did they marry in North Carolina or Tennessee ?  Was this marriage Abagail's first?

The only clue on James is that he had two daughters, one supposedly married a Lefever and one named Tinnie who is reported as having married a Gamboll.
