Greetings! So What's up with Stan and music, anyway?

Well, over the past twenty months, I have had some spare time on my hands. This spare time has given me the opportunity to do some of the things that I always said that I would like to do.

I had always heard of people who had read the bible from cover to cover, and thought that this would be a nice thing to do one day. Twenty months later, I can now say that I belong to that group.

Stan W Ellis

The old testament was a little dry at parts, and I noticed that my daily walk with Christ was corresponding to what I was reading. As such, when I got to Job, I read Job as fast as I could, hoping that I might get to the end of my little employment dry spell. No such luck!

Also on my spare time, I began to play the piano quite a bit more frequently. One of my "one of these days" ideas was to create a CD of my very own. So I started playing around with chords and chord-patterns. The next thing I knew song patterns began to emerge.

Back in 1980, I had begun to tackle the piano on a one-on-one basis, with no instruction except from inspiration. I have to say that I had a little bit of luck creating some songs that sounded alright. Also in 1994, I actually locked myself into a music practice room at Texas Tech and wrote a song, from beginning to end. When I say song, I probably mean to say musical piece, because there are no words to my songs as of today!

Prior to my job-elimination at Frost Bank, I had dreamed of purchasing a professional performance-level keyboard. My more recent job promotion at Frost had just about freed up my monthly cash-flow where I was really about to take the plunge and make the sizeable purchase. After I lost my job, I put this dream on hold, for a little while.

Then I got to thinking, that God wants us to do great things in our lives, but He doesn't what us to do great things in our own strength. God wants us to do great things in and through His strength and power. God wants us to not only dream, but to pursue those dreams, even if those dreams don't appear to be attainable.

I began to realize that, all my life I have been waiting for permission to live. I have always waited until all signs say "Yes Stan" to do anything and everything in my life. For instance, with the dream of owning a professional performance-level keyboard, I was trying to manage, trying to identify all my financial risk factors, monthly cash-flow, etcetera.

To put it another way, think about if every married couple on the face of the earth decided to actually WAIT until it was actually financially feasible to bring a newborn baby into the world. Everybody would be waiting and waiting and waiting, and nothing would ever happen, because the cost of makin' babies is astronomical, right?

But somehow along the way, babies are actually made. Go figure! So how do we get by financially? Well, we give it to God, and He figures it out for us.

With that thought, I decided that I should really and truly follow my dreams, and I purchased, on Credit, my "dream" keyboard.

The day after my "dream" keyboard arrived, I received a call from the church stating that they were in need of someone to do some Korg Studio work for vacation bible school. Incidentally, my "dream" keyboard is the same type of keyboard, with most of the same programming built-in. So in short of 24-hours, after my new keyboard arrived, I began to put it to work for the benefit of the Glory of God.

After VBS, I began to work on figuring out the technical aspects of the Korg Studio-88. Since this time, I've recorded eleven songs, and created a
CD just to see how the process works. The songs turned out okay, I suppose. They are very improvable. Thus, I've decided to continue to work on developing my songs into the Korg; and, on a month-by-month basis, I plan to cut a new CD to continue to listen to, and polish up, the final product.

This project has been extremely fun, to say the least! It has not been extremely beneficial as far as paying the bills is concerned. But perhaps, one day, you never know!
