The Third Generation
This is my generation of the Hamill Family, all grown up (and out in a couple of cases). L-R: Me, Jim, Mom, Bob & Patty. My mother, Dorothy (Warner) and father, James, had two boys (James M. and Robert David.) and two girls (Patricia Eillleen and me, Mary Judith). Here is a picture of the four of us and Mom at a gathering at Bob & Jean's home in Clinton, MD. For some reason, Mom always wanted just a picture of the five of us together -- no in-laws, no children or grand children...God only knows why!
Dorothy & Patty, ca. 1943
The picture above is a picture of my mother, Dorothy Warner and my sister, Patricia E. McElwain. Patty must have been about 8 the first time I remember seeing her; there are stories about times before that, but I do not remember them. I do remember seeing this picture being taken, and wondering why my mother singled out Patty to be in the picture -- we were all there.
- A picture of my brothers sometime in the 40s, L-R: Jim and Bob. This was taken when we lived with Aunts Bell and Marie. They owned a boardinghouse there and took in students from the University. Marie did the cleaning and Isabella made the meals. Isabella also worked for Mrs. Smith and her son, cooking and cleaning in the afternoons.
- This is a picture of 4 of the 5 kids who lived in "Hurrican Hall"; L-R: Sam Wint in the carriage, my brother Jim, Ron Wint, and me (about 11). We all lived with Uncle Dave & Aunt Marnie, who owned the house, Aunt Bell, and Leo and Ellen Wint, who bought the others out for $3,000 in the mid-40s. They lived there until Uncle Leo died in 1995 when his wife left immediately (if not sooner).
- A group picture of a gathering at Hugh & Gina's house in October 1999. Back row, L-R: Dawn, Danny in his dad's arms (Kevin Fosket), Eilene (Kevin's live-in & mother of his child), Hugh, Zac and Nick. Front row, L-R: Bob, Jean (his wife), Dan, and Isabella. Dan thought he was just bringing my sister down for a visit, but I knew she came to die around family; but, she didn't get the support she wanted, so she went back to Wellsville, NY and was gone shortly thereafter. Sorry, Pat...:o(
