Shock Assembly

Shock Assembly

The shocks on this car have some very impressive specs. Fully rebuildable, hard anodized aluminum, and teflon coated, these are the most high-tec shocks I have ever assembled. However, I think Associated is paranoid when it comes to assembly, because they warn you not to tear the o-rings three times!

Assembly of the shocks is fairly straight forward. The only surprise I had was that the shocks have no volume compensation. Apparently, volume compensation is a fad that has come and gone, but it would still be nice to see even a simple bladder design.

Once assembled, however, these shocks showed their incredible ability. These are the best off-road shocks I have ever owned, and they do a wonderful job of soaking up everything in their path.

I used No. 1 pistons front and rear, 30wt oil in front, and the stock 25wt in the rear, as recommended in the May 1996 issue of R/C Car Action.
