SHELAGH DELVES BROUGHTON - 07/11/99 01:51:37 My Email:shelagh@sprint.ca | Comments: Sorry, I forgot to say in the post below here by me again, that in the castle page, where it says that the former family was a John De Broughton, I am under the impresion, (and off hand, I dont know for sure, but could find out), that the De, is really for DELVES..........if so, there is also another whole different coat of arms that I wil try and scan an image over to you at another time..... |
SHELAGH DELVES BROUGHTON - 07/11/99 01:04:30 My Email:shelagh@sprint.ca Surnames of Interest?: DELVES BROUGHTON | Comments: Hi again, I just went to the castle page, and it may interest some of your readers to know that the Delves Broughtons are a titled family.....with another castle as well. Delves is a middle name that we all have, as far back as the 12th century I believe and as of right now, my oldest brothr is the 13th Baronet of Doddington, and the family castle, Doddington Castle, is obviously in England as well, however, it has been turned over to the government, and if I am correct, it is presently being restored, s all castles are constantly being done......There is also a great film/book that came out in 1987-89 with John Hurt, Geraldine Chaplin, Greta Sacchi, called "WHITE MISCHIEF", about a scandalous murder in our family, in Kenya, in the 1940's...If intereste further, there are 2 British publications, one, being the best, as far as I am concerned, DEBRETTS PEERAGE AND BARONETAGE, that lists all of us, our births, deaths, etc, and it goes back, I believe until about the 1800's,although in our family, my brothr has a private book that traces us back until about 1200 or so. Another one,is Burkes Peerage, which I cannot comment on for I have never read it, but it may be of interest to some here...........In England, it is one of the oldest, most respected familys ..........Thanks, and if anyone needs any more info on this branch of mine, feel free to e-mail me at my address. |
