Nathan
R. Broughton's Family
Nathan R. Broughton was born on March 18, 1828 to Amos
Broughton III and Nancy Timmerman Broughton. On July 3, 1852,
Nathan married Francis Smith, the daughter of Joseph and
Susan Smith. Francis' birthdate was November 12, 1831.
Nathan R. and Francis had 5 children.
- Clara P. Broughton, born August 7, 1853. She married
George A. Harter on June 23, 1874. He was born in 1853 and died
in 1908. Clara died in 1904 and is buried at Avilla Cemetery.
- Cornelia Broughton, born in 1855 and died in 1856.
She's buried at Avilla Cemetery.
- William A. Broughton, born in 1857 and died in
1880. He's buried at Avilla Cemetery.
- Everett W. Broughton,
born in 1859. He married Florence Lemon on October 12, 1882.
She was born in 1863 to Charles and Hester Lemon. To them were
born two kids: Clara Broughton on November 4, 1888 and Halycon
Broughton on September 21, 1901. Florence died in 1922. Everett
died in 1942 and is buried at Hooper (King) Cemetery. Everett's
daughter Clara married Charles Lewis on April 2, 1915. Everett's
daughter Halycon married Delbert Pippenger on October 20, 1919.
Halycon had three children (Max, Anna Lee and Jean) before her
death in 1928. She's buried at Hooper (King) Cemetery.
- Florence A. Broughton, born circa 1862. She died
May 15, 1957. An undated stone bearing her name is located in
the Avilla Cemetery.
Nathan R. Broughton passed away on August 6, 1877. He was
buried at Avilla Cemetery. His wife, Francis, lived to see the
turn of the century. She died in 1918.
