William Broughton Sr & Family

William Broughton (Sr) was married to Nancy Akins and together they lived in the Morgan County, Georgia area in the mid 1800's. The couple had several children. Among them were: Ann Broughton, Lucinda Broughton, John A. Broughton, Nancy Broughton and Sophronia Broughton. Another daughter was named Caroline E. Broughton. She was born in Morgan County on October 18, 1814.

On March 1, 1832, Caroline married a neighbor by the name of Clark Brewer in Morgan County, Georgia. We know the two were neighbors because according to the 1840 Census, the Broughtons were living in Georgia near Clark Brewer's father.

In 1841, William's son John A. Broughton married Antoinette E. Mitchell in a ceremony which took place in Georgia. William's daughter Nancy married a man named Charles Henderson Finley.

William's wife Nancy would witness her daughter Caroline wedding, but not her son John's. Nancy died October 10, 1835. William Broughton passed away June 14, 1844. According to the book "Georgia Wills 1733-1860", William's will was filed in 1844 in Morgan County, Georgia and is recorded in Will Book C, Reference 87.

Caroline Broughton and her husband Clark Brewer migrated west, eventually settling in Wells, Cherokee County, Texas sometime around the year 1852. Caroline would live there the rest of her life. She died on November 6, 1879.
