Sunday, August 31, 1997 - Dirty Dub

I should get up to the Ocean scene today with the dubbing. I know I'm missing a couple of takes for the "Falling in Love" collage scene, but I can make that one on a separate tape when I get the film back. The important thing is to realize that I don't have to do it all in one day, but to work a little bit at a time every day.

It's so strange, making a rough cut with my two VCRs. I know there's a lot of tweaking that has to be done between now and the finished film, (e.g. matching sound, adding wild track, tightening up the edits), but nevertheless it's magic connecting takes that up to now have been static little strands. You forget all the effort it took to get that one take and can only really judge a take by how it stands with what comes before and after.

Okay, enough talking about it. Time to hit the living room and put all those electronics to good use for a change.

I recorded a fake radio talk show for when Michael's driving during the opening minutes of the film, but I'm not happy with it and will probably go with music or something else. I initially planned to make it a baseball game broadcast over the radio but that wouldn't make much sense since it's supposed to be early morning. A local baseball game would start around 1:00 on the weekend.
